
Another key provision has been struck from the GOP budget bill that President Donald Trump refers to as the "big, beautiful bill."
Republicans seek to use "budget reconciliation" for the 2026 bill to fund the government; however, the rules for doing so mean that everything in the bill must deal with the budget specifically, journalist Ari Drennen wrote on X.
The Senate Parliamentarian has already removed key pieces of the bill that involve cutting regulations and other ideological matters. On Thursday afternoon, the parliamentarian killed the GOP's effort to ban "gender-affirming care" through the Children's Health Insurance Program and for Medicaid patients.
The only way Republicans can put it back in the bill is with a vote of 60, which is unlikely.
Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-OR) has taken to calling the measure a "big, beautiful betrayal of a bill."
