Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson made an appearance at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, where he posed with former President Donald Trump and talked up his candidacy as a good thing for world affairs.
"Great to meet President Trump who is on top form after the shameful attempt on his life," said Johnson on X, accompanied by a picture of the two of them posing with thumbs up, Trump still with his ear covered from where he was struck when a gunman opened fire at his rally over the weekend.
"We discussed Ukraine and I have no doubt that he will be strong and decisive in supporting that country and defending democracy."
Commenters on social media did not find Johnson's certainty to be that credible — especially given that Trump just selected a running mate, Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH), who is on the record opposing any continued military assistance to Ukraine.
"Is this supposed to be satire?!" wrote the Ukraine Daily account.
"You know what he and Vance said about Ukraine there Boris?" wrote former Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL).
"He's just brought on a VP who wants to stop support for Ukraine," wrote the account @J1mClark.
"Well that just increased Biden's chances at the presidency," wrote the account @thedeep404.
EXCLUSIVE: Trump’s ‘secretary of retribution’ has a ‘target list’ of 350 people he wants arrested
"Fixed this for you: I met President Trump today, he didn’t know who I was. He gave me $20 for a hair cut," wrote the account @CorrectingHorse.
"@BorisJohnson is a hypocrite and aligns himself with a dangerous idiot who has picked a candidate as VP who runs our country down," wrote the account @TeresaC123. "Shameful from Boris Johnson as per usual."
"Trump's support for Ukraine will be about as reliable as your fidelity to former wives and girlfriends," wrote the account @Mytho1ogies. "In other words, not very much."
"Meaning he told you, or you're just letting out your feelings?" wrote the account @kvistp. "He must have said something to convince you of that? And you do now [sic] him and his new VP lies 99 percent of the time right?"
"I feel like the Trump campaign is like the end of a musical where the entire cast comes out. Except it’s grifters instead of singers," wrote the account @NOTNSAHELPDESK.
