CNN anchor Jake Tapper threw shade at MAGA darling Candace Owens on Wednesday over her history of bullying the French president's wife.

Tapper was discussing a defamation lawsuit filed by President Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte, against Owens with guest Tom Clare, the Macrons' lawyer in the case. Clare described numerous instances where the Macrons reached out to Owens in an attempt to prevent her from spreading the claims about Brigitte. However, Clare said Owens ignored their requests and instead spread them further.

"Are you at all concerned that this is a disturbed individual who loves attention?" Tapper asked Clare. "She likes the fact that we are talking about her on CNN. Whatever happened to her as a child, she doesn't care that the attention is negative."

"And you're bringing her more?" Tapper added.

Over the last years, Owens has been telling her audience that Bigitte Macron was born a man and accused the family of covering it up, which the lawsuit described as a "relentless" campaign of defamation.

Owens' claims have also been repeated by other right-wing outlets, which Clare said Owens could be liable for all of the republications.

"We did not do this as our first choice," Clare said. "But Jake, if that mindset allowed the Macrons to sit back, that's how disinformation takes root. That's how disinformation wins. And you have to take that first step, that principled step, and I applaud the Macrons for their courage in taking this on."
