An Iraq War veteran who was convicted of manslaughter for slaying a civilian -- and was then busted on Monday for assaulting officers in the Jan. 6 Capitol riot -- has federal prosecutors concerned he might "snap" again after they found a AR-15 rifle and 73 rounds of ammo in his closet.
On Monday morning, Edward Richmond Jr., 40, from Geismar, Louisiana, was brought into custody in Baton Rouge after the discovery of the weapon, which he was barred from possessing due to a 2005 conviction for shooting an Iraqi civilian in the head.
“The government is concerned that, under growing pressure, he may snap again,” Politico first reported, citing a 19-page motion to detain Richmond filed by Assistant U.S. Attorney Victoria Sheets.
Richmond stands accused of heading to D.C. on Jan. 6 as part of security detail for those attending the "Stop the Steal" rally for then-President Donald Trump.

He was pictured donning full tactical gear and is being accused of using a metal baton to attack Capitol officers guarding the lower west-terrace tunnel.
Politico reported that the court papers say “Richmond knows that a gun can irrevocably destroy lives. This did not deter him from possessing an assault weapon."
The risk of a rampage, according to the prosecutor, is real and therefore the judge should remand him.
