The Carolina Panthers announced on Thursday that the team had fired a communications employee for making "insensitive" social media posts about conservative activist Charlie Kirk's murder, according to a new report.

The Charlotte Observer reported that the employee, Charlie Rock, posted about Kirk's death on his personal Instagram account.

"A few hours after the 31-year-old Kirk was shot and killed Wednesday while speaking to a crowd at Utah Valley University, Rock posted: 'Why are yall (sic) sad? Your man said it was worth it ...' and included a photo of Kirk. Rock also included a reference to the Wu-Tang Clan song 'Protect Ya Neck' in the post," the report reads in part.

The team confirmed Rock's firing in a social media post.

"The views expressed by our employees are their own and do not represent those of the Carolina Panthers," the Panthers said in a post on X. "We do not condone violence of any kind. We are taking this matter very seriously and have accordingly addressed it with the individual."

Kirk was killed on Wednesday while giving a speech at Utah Valley University. The investigation is ongoing, and the gunman remains at large.
