Suspect in Charlie Kirk’s killing taken into custody, says FBI head Kash Patel

FBI Director Kash Patel said Wednesday that authorities took into custody the suspected gunman who shot and killed conservative activist Charlie Kirk on the Utah Valley University campus.

"The subject for the horrific shooting today that took the life of Charlie Kirk is now in custody. Thank you to the local and state authorities in Utah for your partnership with @fbi. We will provide updates when able," Patel posted on X.

The suspect's name wasn't immediately known.

During a press conference on Wednesday afternoon, a spokesperson for the bureau said the investigation remains ongoing. Authorities later described the person taken into custody as a person of interest.
