Office Depot became the subject of MAGA fury on Friday night after a video posted on social media showed two employees refusing to fulfill an order to print fliers sharing details of a vigil planned for slain conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA, died from a gunshot wound to the neck during a public event at Utah Valley University on Wednesday. On Friday, authorities arrested 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, who faces a murder charge in the shooting.
The slaying immediately stoked partisan divisions, and that continued Friday afternoon in Portage, Michigan, where two employees at an Office Depot refused to print out fliers for a vigil planned for Kirk.
"Today at 2:24 PM, the Kalamazoo County Republican Party #KGOP placed an order for a poster of #CharlieKirk for a vigil tonight," Matthew S. DePerno, constitutional attorney and former attorney general candidate, wrote on X.
Instead, he said a print supervisor called about three hours later and said they were "refusing to print the poster because it is 'propaganda.'
"Hey @officedepot @OfficeMax do you think this is acceptable? We went to @FedEx. They apologized and printing the poster for free.
In a video attached to DePerno's post, a man asks about his order for a vigil, and is immediately rebuffed.
"We don't print propaganda," a worker replies.
When the man insists the fliers are "not propaganda," the worker immediately replies, "It's propaganda. I'm sorry, we don't print that here."
The man insists the fliers are for a Friday night prayer vigil for a person who died.
"What makes it propaganda?" asks a woman recording the video.
"Because he's a political figure and I don't have to — yeah," the worker replies.
MAGA world immediately melted down as the video spread across social media.
MAGA influencer Nick Sortor wrote on X, "WTF?! Office Depot in Michigan is flat out REFUSING to print out Charlie Kirk tribute posters for vigils tonight They called it 'PROPAGANDA' These people need to be FIRED NOW, @officedepot!"
Libs of TikTok wrote on X, "HOLY CRAP A customer put in an order and paid for a poster for a vigil for Charlie. .@officedepot REFUSED to print it because they said it’s 'propaganda' WTF @officedepot?!"
MAGA influencer Sara Rose wrote on X, "Disgusting fat libs who work at @officedepot refused to print posters for Charlie Kirk's vigil saying, 'That's propaganda. We don't print that here.'" They need to be FIRED."
Right-wing influencer Matt Wallace wrote on X, "Office Depot REFUSES To Print Poster For Charlie Kirk prayer vigil, calling it 'political propaganda' Internet, do your thing!"
Rep. Bill Huizenga (R-MI) wrote on X, "It is absolutely shameful that @OfficeDepot in Portage refused to print this poster for the vigil tonight at Bronson Park in Kalamazoo. These individuals paid for the work to be done and the employees appear to have refused to do it because it was in memory of Charlie Kirk."
