FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino made a stunning claim Monday when he confirmed that his agency was “investigating” whether Charlie Kirk’s suspected killer had ties to someone present at the university event where the right-wing influencer was shot.

Speaking on Fox News, Bongino was asked by host Bill Hemmer whether there existed a connection between Kirk's suspected killer, who’s been identified as 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, and the individual who posed a question to Kirk about “transgender mass shooters” — the final question Kirk received before being shot.

“Is there any connection, at all, between the person who was asking the question about mass shooters and trans killers, or was that just a stunning coincidence when that single shot was fired?” Hemmer asked Bongino.

“Well, we're investigating that,” Bongino confirmed. “I don't want to say conclusively right now if there was a connection or not. Charlie was known to speak out about these issues, he was a powerful voice, it's not terribly uncommon for him to get questions like that. However, we are looking into that. Any potential connection here will get the scrub.”

Hemmer, attempting to clarify Bongino’s response, pressed the FBI deputy director on whether he was confirming that the individual who posed the question to Kirk was, in fact, under investigation.

“I'm not drawing conclusions from your answer, but you're saying it's a possibility?” Hemmer asked. “Is that what I hear you saying?”

For a second time, Bongino appeared to confirm that the individual was under investigation by his agency.

“We're looking into everything Bill, there's not going to be a stone left unturned if there was anyone involved who aided or abetted,” Bongino said. “I can't say that in strong enough terms: every single FBI asset on this team is being applied and used in this investigation.”

A Utah resident, Robinson was arrested on Friday after his father and pastor contacted law enforcement. The FBI has faced bi-partisan scrutiny for its fumbling of the investigation into Kirk’s killer, which included false and premature statements that the suspect had been apprehended.
