In an op-ed published by Fox News Wednesday, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy sang the praises of the GOP's investigations into allegations of bribery involving the Biden family – despite them being widely considered to be flubs.
The speaker wrote that justice, when it comes to the Biden Administration, is neither "blind" or "equal."
According to McCarthy, there is growing evidence that the Biden Justice Department "enforces the law unequally by tilting the scales to favor friends and family while unleashing the FBI and prosecutors on President Biden’s political opponent." He claimed that Americans are now learning about Biden's alleged abuses of power thanks to investigations conducted by House Republicans.
The investigation by the oversight committee, chaired by James Comer (R-Ky.), has largely been unable to come up with a smoking gun, according to many reports. So-called whistleblowers it's produced have largely been discredited, most recently with an indictment for allegedly being a Chinese agent.
McCarthy went to list details that he says are examples of "possible corruption by the Biden family," that has so far been uncovered by Republicans, including a "sweetheart deal" Hunter Biden received from "his father’s DOJ" where he was "allowed to plea down to misdemeanor tax charges and would not face any charges for money laundering or working as an unregistered lobbyist."
Among other things, he also accuses Attorney General Merrick Garland of lying under oath when he said the Delaware U.S. Attorney in charge of the Hunter Biden probe has not faced any interference from the Department of Justice, and pointed out that "compelling evidence from whistleblowers" refute Garland's claim.
"When a prosecutor shields his boss’s son from investigators, it smells like a cover-up. Garland’s DOJ did not aggressively follow the money. Why? Are they afraid of where that trail ends?" writes McCarthy.
"Our committees will continue to gather evidence and conduct oversight, and we will follow the facts wherever they lead. Nothing will stop us from getting to the truth for the American people."
