Recently-defeated House Speaker Kevin McCarthy is considering stepping down from the House before his term is over, Politico reported Friday.

McCarthy signaled that he was thinking of stepping down during a closed-door meeting with his conference hours after Democrats and Republicans united to vote him out.

“I’m going to spend time with my family,” he said.
