Biden administration says Florida’s teacher bonus plan may violate COVID-19 relief money rules

ORLANDO, Fla. — Florida’s plan to use federal COVID-19 relief money to give classroom teachers and school principals $1,000 bonuses may have hit a snag. The U.S. Department of Education, in a letter this week, told Florida education leaders their bonus plan looks likely to conflict with federal requirements that the money help address student “learning loss” brought on by the pandemic. That could derail the state’s effort to spend nearly $216 million on bonuses for about 180,000 teachers and about 3,600 principals. The problem, first reported by Politico Florida, was detailed in a letter the f...

Southern pastors are scared to promote vaccines as white Evangelicals reject science: report

As formerly Confederate states struggle with low vaccination rates as the Delta variant of coronavirus spreads across America, pastors stuck between the science of what is best for their flocks and superstitions that their congregants believe.

"Biden administration and state officials hoped that pastors would play an outsized role in promoting Covid-19 vaccines, but many are wary of alienating their congregants and are declining requests to be more outspoken. Politico spoke with nearly a dozen pastors, many of whom observed that vaccination is too divisive to broach, especially following a year of contentious conversations over race, pandemic limits on in-person worship and mask requirements. Public health officials have hoped that more religious leaders can nudge their congregants to get Covid shots, particularly white evangelicals who are among the most resistant to vaccination," the publication reported Saturday.

Somehow he never seems to have an actual expert on his show to discuss."

Missouri man in his 40s 'so sorry' he didn't get the COVID vaccine. Then he died

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The email from a nurse manager about a patient's death from COVID-19 "grabbed me," CoxHealth system director of public relations said. It told the vivid story of what health care workers in the Ozarks are facing as hospital beds are filling again, this time with cases from the delta variant. The numbers are skyrocketing in Branson and rural areas, and the vaccination rate is so low it's made national news. So Kaitlyn McConnell wrote about the email and posted it on the health system's Facebook page Wednesday night. "A patient we had yesterday is tragically not with us today,...

After researching about six, she finally found one. “It’s been difficult, and the kids at this point, they stopped asking about going back to ...
