1 out of every 100 seniors in US has died of COVID-19, three-quarters of the nearly 800,000

One out of every 100 older American has died of COVID-19 since the pandemic began as the nation moves toward a gruesome milestone of 800,000 deaths. At least three-quarters of the nearly 800,000 who have died of COVID have been over 65, according to statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In New York state, many of those deaths occurred in nursing homes, especially at the start of the pandemic in March 2020. Earlier this year, health officials said 15,049 residents of elder care facilities had died of the virus, either in the facility or at a hospital. But nursing home ...

Atheists are among the most likely to be vaccinated for COVID — and white evangelicals are among the least

Although some anti-vaxxers identify as liberal or progressive, the vast majority of people who have been angrily railing against COVID-19 vaccines in the United States have been far-right white evangelical fundamentalists, Christian nationalists and MAGA Republicans. And recent Pew Research polling has found that atheists have some of the United States’ highest COVID-19 vaccination rates.

According to Pew, 90% of atheists in the U.S. have been vaccinated for COVID-19 compared to only 57% of white fundamentalist evangelicals. Among the overall adult population in the U.S., 73% have been vaccinated.

On Sunday morning, as a change of pace, "State of the Union" host Jake Tapper allowed New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio (D) and Gov. More Missouri health departments halt COVID efforts after attorney general's threat

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A growing number of local health departments across Missouri are ending their COVID-19 response after Attorney General Eric Schmitt demanded the agencies comply with a court ruling that appears to severely limit the authority of local health officials. Since Thursday, more than half a dozen departments have announced they are suspending coronavirus-related work after Schmitt, a Republican campaigning for U.S. Senate, sent letters earlier in the week. The announcements come from health departments in mostly rural counties — none have been issued from the Kansas City or St. Lo...

Listerine website debunks GOP senator’s latest anti-science claim

Conspiracy theorist and Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) has garnered national attention for his ridiculous claims about the coronavirus pandemic and Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, among other delusions.

"The senator has been criticized for spreading conspiracy theories about the coronavirus and has promoted the use of drugs that have shown little to no evidence that they are effective in treating covid-19. YouTube this year suspended his account for violating the company’s medical misinformation policies. He has also expressed skepticism about the efficacy of coronavirus vaccine mandates and doses, which have undergone vigorous health testing," The Washington Post reported Thursday.
