'This theory needs some work': Jake Tapper takes down Rand Paul's conspiratorial ramblings about ivermectin

CNN host Jake Tapper on Monday made quick work of Sen. Rand Paul's (R-KY) conspiracy theory about medical professionals refusing to do research into ivermectin due to their hatred of former President Donald Trump.

Late last week, Paul told a local newspaper that he personally did not know whether ivermectin was an effective COVID-19 treatment because medical professionals had let their hatred of Trump override their duty to research treatments.

Concert venues are banking on proof of vaccines or negative tests to woo back fans

MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo. — Fans of the band Wilco could have reasonably interpreted frontman Jeff Tweedy singing “I Am Trying to Break Your Heart” at an Aug. 13 concert at St. Louis Music Park as the universe explaining the past year or so. For example, 30-year-old fan Lazarus Pittman had planned to see Wilco and co-headliner Sleater-Kinney in August 2020 at the open-air venue in this suburb west of St. Louis. Then the show was postponed because of the covid-19 pandemic. Pittman got sick with the coronavirus. He quit his job as a traffic engineer in Connecticut to relocate to St. Louis for his gi...

It's back to school time in America after a year of remote learning, but forget about the iconic yellow school bus: because of Covid, there is a shortage of drivers.

Ron DeSantis-cited article to oppose mask-wearing for kids falls apart under scrutiny

As Florida has sunk ever-deeper into its third major wave of Covid-19, Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis has dug in his heels on his relatively hands-off approach to the virus, which many say has allowed it to spiral out of control.

Hospitalizations in the state have reached a recent peak of around 17,000, straining local resources. Average daily deaths from the virus recently approached 250, significantly above the worst days of the previous waves. With the spread uncontrolled, many are nervously awaiting the end of the summer and the start of the school year, when millions of children will attend schools packed with classmates, all breathing the same air.

'Toxic and impossible to do': School boards see exodus of members tired of dealing with anti-mask parents

School board leaders are bailing across the country because they don't want to deal with angry parents spreading conspiracy theories about COVID and masks.

The Associated Press wrote Sunday about one Nevada school board member who was feeling suicidal. Another, in Virginia, resigned after the mask fights. A Wisconsin member was scared someone would slash his tires if his car was in the parking lot. Most school board members are unpaid. They're volunteers who care about their children and the community. So, when they're attacked non-stop by people losing it over masks, it doesn't seem worth it.
