Intel agencies call COVID lab leak theory 'plausible' -- but debunk right-wing bioweapon conspiracy theory

America's intelligence agencies on Friday released a report showing inconclusive evidence about the origins of the novel coronavirus, although all of them said that the theory that the virus leaked from a lab in Wuhan was "plausible."

CNN reports that four of the agencies involved in the review believe with low confidence that the virus most likely originated naturally, while one agency said it has moderate confidence in the lab leak theory.

A captain at the Wayne County Sheriff's Office who promoted anti-vaccination propaganda on his Facebook page has died from COVID-19.

Local news station WSAV reports that Capt. Joe Manning died this week at the age of 57 after what Sheriff Chuck Moseley described as a brief battle with COVID-19.

Unvaccinated US school teacher spread COVID to 26 people

An unvaccinated teacher at an elementary school in California spread the Delta variant of the coronavirus to at least 26 other people, including 12 students in their classroom, a new study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said Friday.

The health agency said the case highlights the importance of vaccinating school staff in order to protect young children who are not yet eligible for vaccines, as schools reopen amid a new nationwide surge driven by the ultra-contagious Delta variant.
