The White House withdrew Dave Weldon's nomination to be the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) director just minutes before a Senate Committee was set to consider him as a nominee.

Axios first reported that the White House was pulling the nomination as concerns about the nominee's anti-vaccinee views were growing. CBS News confirmed the report.

One source told Axios that HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy did not believe that Weldon, a former congressman, was ready for the job.

Minutes after the nomination was withdrawn, the Senate canceled his hearing.
