Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Police have closed off several roads after an incident near the U.S. Capitol.

"MPD is responding to a suspicious package in the 300 block of Constitution Avenue, NW. Several roads are closed. Avoid the area," they reported on X. "300-500 blocks of C Street, NW are closed. Expect delays."

The closed off area in question, where the package was reportedly discovered, is near the West Front of the Capitol building.

Incidents of this nature occur periodically in D.C. In September, the Democratic National Committee headquarters received a significant police response following a bomb threat that turned out to be a hoax.
