Ron DeSantis' presidential campaign is running into financial difficulties as he has only around $5 million on hand for the remainder of the primary season, Newsweek reported.

In contrast, Donald Trump has $36 million of cash on hand.

"The $15 million raised by DeSantis' PACs in the third quarter is also down from $20 million in the first six weeks of the Florida governor's presidential run," Newsweek's report stated. "A number of key fundraising and campaigning efforts have also been taken over by the pro-DeSantis Super PAC Never Back Down, including pumping millions in advertising and hosting events."

POLL: Should Trump be allowed to run for office?

Possibly contributing to DeSantis' financial difficulties was the decision to move a significant portion of his staff out of Florida and into Iowa after around 38 staffers were let go in a drastic cost-cutting move.

"The alarming figures from the third quarter have reportedly left some donors concerned about how much longer DeSantis can feasible try to topple Trump as the favorite to clinch the GOP presidential nomination next year," Newsweek reported.
