White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt attacked the press on Wednesday morning with questions about the leader of President Donald Trump's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

On Tuesday afternoon, the White House confirmed to the Washington Examiner that Amy Gleason is the administrator of the DOGE initiative, which is tasked with slashing trillions from the federal budget. For weeks, Trump has been calling Elon Musk the head of DOGE. It was also announced on Tuesday that Trump's first Cabinet meeting would feature Musk.

“Amy Gleason has been the DOGE administrator for quite some time, I believe several weeks, maybe a month, I’m not actually sure of the specific timeline,” said Leavitt Wednesday after being asked when Gleason became the leader of DOGE.

Reporters then asked Leavitt about the fact that those working for DOGE had never heard of Gleason until Tuesday when the White House announced her name.

“You’d have to ask them. They’re clearly unaware. I don’t know," Leavitt said.

Reporters then asked if DOGE staff was ever told about the leader of their effort.

“Everybody knew, and we said who she was to all of you because you are hounds in the media who are so obsessed with this," Leavitt said before chastising. "There are so many bigger things in the world than who the DOGE administrator is.”

DOGE was never created in law by Congress, as was the case with all other federal agencies and Cabinet posts. Instead, Trump invented it with an executive order.

In court for the past several days, Justice Department lawyers were unable to answer demands from judges to name the leader of DOGE. It led to questions about whether the person was working undercover.
