California Democrats' window of opportunity to remove Donald Trump from the state ballot is beginning to close, Politico reported Tuesday.

California Secretary of State Shirley Weber has until Dec. 28 to determine which candidates will appear on the 2024 presidential ballot, according to the report.

Democrats in the California Assembly have called on Attorney General Rob Bonta to seek an expedited state court ruling, stating that Trump “continues to be a clear and present danger to free and fair elections in the United States.”

This tactic would allow Bonta to expedite the court process, Politico notes.

"As California’s top lawyer, he has automatic standing to proactively ask a court for declaratory relief," the report states, "a process where a judge can quickly rule on an unresolved legal question."

California is among several states challenging Trump's eligibility to run for office after the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.

But, according to Politico, those efforts could hit a wall in the former of the conservative-controlled U.S. Supreme Court.
