Donald Trump on Saturday lashed out at his chief competitor for the GOP's 2024 Republican presidential nomination, calling into question the legality of Ron DeSantis' fundraising and suggesting the Florida governor is "desperately trying to get out of the Presidential race" to prepare for 2028.
Trump, who is known for casting insults at his perceived political enemies, took to Truth Social to once again attack DeSantis, this time largely focusing on his competition's fundraising apparatus.
"Ron DeSanctimonious is desperately trying to get out of the Presidential race, while at the same time saving face for 2028, where he has been greatly damaged," Trump said Saturday. The former president added that "Jeff Roe, Ron’s boss despite having a terrible record of winning, is spending money like a wild man gone bad."

Trump, himself facing multiple state and federal indictments for alleged crimes including mishandling classified records and business violation related to purported hush-money payments to Stormy Daniels, went on to suggest DeSantis could be breaking the law by using certain funds for his campaign.
"Much of the money being used was raised for his Gubernatorial race, and transferred over (illegally?) because his Presidential donors have largely fled due to his terrible, and still falling, poll numbers," he added. "Ron is just wasting time!"
