President Donald Trump's niece and psychologist Mary Trump revealed what's behind the president's obsession with gold decor and slapping his name on everything.
These compulsions can be traced back to his childhood, Mary Trump explained in a Substack live video chat on Wednesday with writer Wajahat Ali. And as Trump ages and contemplates his own death and the realization that his time will end, it's not that he plans to be more reflective — instead he wants to attack his enemies and air his grievances.
"Donald was never loved at a very crucial developmental period the way children need to be loved," she said. "And my grandfather, by preferring him, by treating him differently than everybody else, made him unlovable. He is a black hole of need. And the thing he needs is love. It's also the thing he will never, ever have."
"Nobody loves this man," Mary Trump explained. "So he tries, he tries to fill it up with money and more money and unspeakable amounts of money and power and flattery and putting his name on everything. Putting gold on top of everything to make him feel special."
She pointed to the UFC fight at the White House on his birthday, "which was all about him."
"And I'm telling you, he woke up that next morning feeling emptier than he ever had in his life because it's starting to break through that," Mary Trump said, suggesting how Trump felt after the event. "'Wait a second, no matter how much I have, no matter how much I steal... no matter how much I aggrandize myself, I will always be this empty, broken, terrified little boy.'"
She described what will happen as Trump's health continues to decline.
"He has spent almost all of his psychic energy from the time he was an adolescent protecting himself from knowledge of the truth of what a weak, pathetic loser he is," she said. "And he's also spent massive amounts of psychic energy making sure that he never experiences humiliation, which is hysterical because he's a loser who's constantly being humiliated."
But that could be changing, Mary Trump explained.
"He's starting to have some insight into what other people actually think about him, what he actually sounds like, how he actually looks and just how little control he has," she added. "He's losing control of the narrative, right?"
