
Donald Trump on Saturday claimed that he had homeless encampment "tents" removed regularly when he was in office, as the former president called for a full federal government takeover of Washington, D.C.
Trump, who was speaking at a Turning Point USA event, earlier said he had underestimated Joe Biden. Later in the talk, Trump said he would sometimes have the tents belonging to homeless people "taken down" when he saw them as he came into the White House from the airport.
"I kept it beautiful," he said. "If I saw one tent or two tents or three tents as I was coming in from the airport, I'd have them taken down immediately because I knew that you'd have 100 tents and 1,000 tents if you don't do it."

Trump added, "It's about time for the federal government to take over Washington, D.C., and run it properly. Run it with sense."
Trump didn't address the fact that the Republican party's platform tends to lean away from expanding the powers of the federal government, or whether he'd want the Biden administration to control the nation's capital.
