'He will say or do anything': Trump strategist slams Ron DeSantis

President Donald Trump strategist Jason Miller took a lap of mockery against Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis in an appearance on the right-wing Newsmax network on Monday, as DeSantis struggles to get his campaign back on track.

Miller particularly took a swing at DeSantis' recent comments praising Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds and taking a swipe at Trump for his escalating attacks on her.

"Let's be clear what's going on here: Ron DeSantis' polling numbers are dropping like a rock," said Miller to Newsmax hosts John Huddy and Bianca de la Garza. "And so, at this point, he will say or do anything to try to attach himself to something or somebody who's popular."

Reynolds, who recently signed a draconian near-total ban on abortion, has officially remained neutral in the GOP primary as the candidates have descended on her state ahead of the first contest of the 2024 election; however, she has attended far more events for the DeSantis campaign than for the Trump campaign, which has led Trump to accuse her of playing under-the-table favorites.

Despite this, DeSantis has struggled in the polls, with Trump leading him by roughly 30 points in the FiveThirtyEight aggregate. The campaign has struggled with criticism that the governor has too little charisma to interact with voters naturally, and came under intense backlash after touting a virulently homophobic anti-Trump attack ad produced by his super PAC.

The struggles have led DeSantis to shake up personnel at his campaign, which last week fired about a dozen staffers and saw two senior strategists leave to set up an independent nonprofit to boost the governor.
