Not shying away from difficult questions, Kimmel wanted to know the details about the emails and if the conspiracy theories about her health were true. He also wondered if she actually founded ISIS and, best of all, he forced Clinton read mean tweets from Republican nominee Donald Trump.
“Who would have guessed this audience would be so enthusiastic about the co-founder of ISIS?” Kimmel joked as Clinton sat in the chair beside him.
When it comes to crazy accusations, Clinton has seen them all but that one, she said, is “one of the crazier things that’s been said this campaign,” though she admitted she doesn't “get upset anymore” about things Trump says “because I’d be upset all the time.” That said, rhetoric like his, she confessed, is "harmful" because it "actually helps terrorists" by promoting them and their absurd ideology.
Recent reports from Clinton spokesperson Robbie Mook were that the campaign hasn't been able to find someone to play Trump in debate prep because no one can anticipate what he could possibly say. Even Trump has no consistency to policies or positions and when in doubt he invents facts to support himself. But Clinton says she's managing.
“I watched a lot of his debates during the primaries and he insulted all of his opponents, he insulted all the moderators, he insulted, I guess about 80 percent of the American people and the rest of the world.” So while she intends to “take it seriously,” she is also realistic about the potential “wackiness” that will ensue. So, she's drawing on her experience in elementary school.
Being in the presence of Clinton allowed Kimmel not merely the opportunity to ask questions but to check if Clinton was actually still alive. Given the conspiracy theories about her health, she could very easily be a cyborg by now.
“Oh my God, there’s nothing there!” Kimmel joked, taking her pulse.
“Back in October, The National Enquirer said I would be dead in six months,” Clinton said, “so with every breath I take I feel like I have a new lease on life!”
Clinton was shocked why the GOP would hope to paint her as unhealthy. "I don't know why they are saying this. I think on the one hand, it's part of the wacky strategy. Just say all these crazy things and maybe you can get some people to believe you. On the other hand, it just absolutely makes no sense. I don’t go around questioning Donald Trump’s health." Clinton said, as far as she can tell, that Trump’s health seems to be physically fine.
Kimmel cited Trump’s doctor, who says a medical examination proved the GOP nominee has the best health ever — of all time. Of all time. Clinton smiled and nodded, saying that she'd heard about that. To prove her stability, Kimmel gave Clinton the ultimate test: Open a jar of pickles. Somehow, she managed.
“If you were elected president, how great would it be if your first act was to deport Donald Trump to Mexico?” he asked. Clinton laughed and tried to say that we are at “such a serious time in our country,” but Kimmel countered, “Not really.”
“I would prefer to be running against somebody who I thought was qualified to be president and temperamentally fit to be commander-in-chief,” Clinton admitted. Even if that would make the campaign more difficult. She also said that we've had some not-so "great" presidents in our history, but “I don't think we’ve ever been confronted with somebody who we see right now in the midst of this election is unqualified and temperamentally unfit.”
As for the latest round of email scandal, Clinton called it boring. “We’ve already released, I don’t know, 30,000-plus, so what’s a few more?”
Clinton admitted that she would be really "distraught" as a grandmother if she didn't have FaceTime to see her grandchildren.
Kimmel also mocked how excited Bill Clinton got at the Democratic National Convention about the balloons. "It's like he's seeing balloons for the first time," he said, while Clinton laughed. She said that the former president's enjoyment of little things like balloons is one of the things she loves about him.
Kimmel remarked that the convention must have been really uplifting to have four straight days of people saying nice things about her. "Usually, you have to die to get that," he said.
"Well, you know, I'm on the brink," Clinton joked, holding her hand to her heart.
Toward the end, Kimmel had Clinton read Trump's mean tweets and insults he's pushed out about people. But the one Clinton refused to read was when Trump said he would date his own daughter Ivanka. Kimmel read it aloud, curious which one it was, while Clinton looked on shaking her head.
