Caolan Magee, a columnist for the United Kingdom's iNews, has written a scathing takedown of Tesla CEO Elon Musk's efforts to bring "efficiency" to the government by taking a hatchet to the federal workforce.
Magee begins by labeling Musk a "walking PR disaster" for the Trump administration while highlighting Musk's flashing of a Nazi salute and his chainsaw-wielding appearance at the Conservative Political Action Conference.
However, he thinks the damage that Musk is really doing to both Trump and his own reputation are the actions he's taking through the Department of Government Efficiency.
"But the crown jewel of his failures is Doge itself," Magee argues. "Once hailed by Trump as the answer to government waste, the department has fallen into disarray. Mass resignations, mounting lawsuits and financial blunders have turned Doge into a bureaucratic circus that undermines the President. As it lurches further into dysfunction, Musk’s carefully crafted image as a shrewd businessman is crumbling."

Magee then goes through all of the legal setbacks that DOGE has been handed in recent weeks, which he notes has had the perverse effect of making the government less efficient given that it's been "bogging down agencies in costly lawsuits."
He also goes through all the ways that Musk has sparked infighting inside the administration as cabinet officials have objected to the mass firings of their own workers.
"With growing resistance from senior officials, Musk’s standing within the administration is becoming increasingly fragile," he concludes. "Musk’s government experiment is fast becoming a cautionary tale – and one that even Trump may soon tire of defending."
