House Republicans on Tuesday failed on two major votes, causing political experts and onlookers to condemn the GOP and Speaker Mike Johnson.

The House earlier in the day failed to impeach Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas for his immigration policies, as well as failed to get enough votes on a plan to send $17.6 billion to Israel.

Ian Sams, White House spokesperson for oversight and investigations, issued a statement on the failure to impeach.

“Clearly there is bipartisan agreement that this baseless, unconstitutional impeachment stunt should fail. House Republicans ought to realize that extreme political stunts like this are a waste of time, and instead join the President, Secretary Mayorkas, and Republicans and Democrats who want to work together to deliver real solutions that actually strengthen border security.”

Dem House aide Aaron Fritschner also chimed in:

"With respect to spectacular past failures of Messrs. McCarthy and Scalise, that was the most embarrassing defeat I can remember on the House floor in over a decade working here," he said Tuesday night. "How do you put an **impeachment** on the floor without having the votes locked up? INCREDIBLE."

Rep. Eric Swalwell, a Democrat, called Republicans "failures!"

"MAGA GOP tried sabotaging border security by impeaching the guy in charge -- just because Trump told them to do it," he said. "What an embarrassment. They are a party of failed followers. Democrats are a party of leaders."

Congressional Integrity Project called it a "stunt."

"215 House Republicans voted in favor of a desperate political stunt in an effort to aid Donald Trump," the group wrote. "This was a massive waste of everyone's time -- and their conference owns this stunt."

Commentary Magazine editor Seth Mandel said Tuesday, "Stay on the floor go for the hat trick! Surely this crew can find one more rake tonight."
