Senior Trump administration Justice Department official Emil Bove has ordered federal prosecutors to drop criminal charges against New York City Mayor Eric Adams, Fox News reported Monday.

This comes after weeks of speculation that the Trump administration might consider ending the case.

Adams was indicted last September in a sweeping federal corruption probe. Prosecutors allege he was part of a sweeping scheme involving wire fraud, bribery, and the acceptance of illegal contributions from foreign government officials.

Authorities said Adams accepted more than $100,000 in luxury hotel stays and flight upgrades from people tied to Turkey's government, and improperly pressured the city's fire department to ignore safety concerns and expedite approval for a high-rise for the Turkish Consulate General.

The mayor has denied all allegations against him.

In recent months, he spent time at President Donald Trump's residence in Mar-a-Lago and played up his commitment to helping the Trump administration carry out immigration enforcement in New York City, optics that led some observers to speculate he was angling for a pardon.
