CNN's Erin Burnett smacked President Donald Trump with his own words as a scandal involving his ambassador to Greece engulfed the administration Thursday.
The Wall Street Journal reported that Kimberly Guilfoyle, who was previously engaged to Donald Trump Jr., had demanded more than $100,000 from a Trump donor to pay her American Express bill. In exchange, the report said Guilfoyle would help give the donor more access to the administration. However, Guilfoyle seemed to have gone back on her end of the bargain, as the donor came forward in a fiery interview on MS NOW.
Burnett also mentioned multiple seemingly corrupt deals that the Trump administration has struck. She cited Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner's investments in the Middle East while he is doing diplomatic work on behalf of the administration, and the Department of Defense's investment in companies tied to Trump's sons.
She said the episode with Guilfoyle showed "the known corruption and cronyism of trump's inner circle is now spreading wider."
Burnett was taken aback by the report. She played a roundup of Trump telling his supporters that he was running against "corrupt" politicians like Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama.
"Now Americans see the wealth accumulation of the Trump family, which is astounding," Burnett said. "Again, $2.2 billion in his first year alone. And they don't like it."
