Ex-prosecutor slams Brett Kavanaugh’s ‘political rage’: ‘Unbecoming of somebody sitting on the Supreme Court’
Former federal prosecutor Mimi Rocah questioned whether Judge Brett Kavanaugh possesses the objectivity required of a Supreme Court Justice during a Tuesday appearance on MSNBC.
Anchor Andrea Mitchell played a clip of Sen. Jeff Flake (R-AZ) speaking at "The Atlantic Fest" worrying about the tone Judge Kavanaugh displayed at his confirmation hearing.
Mitchell wondered if the, "responses to the senators, the way he reacted, and the belligerence in the responses to the questioning on last Thursday, should that be part of what the senators decide in the voting?"
"Andrea, 100 percent," Rocah replied. "His demeanor, his temperament, his reaction to the questioning, needs to be take into consideration."
Rocah suggested there was value in setting aside the allegations of sexual assault against multiple women and take a moment to examine how Kavanaugh conducted himself.
"The political nature of his statement, and the political rage, frankly, is just completely unbecoming of someone who is going to be sitting on the Supreme Court," she observed.
"And Supreme Court justices, of course, can have political views, of course can have political backgrounds -- that is going to happen," she acknowledged. "But they have to be capable. Capable of being objective and fair and letting people feel -- and parties who are appearing before the court feel -- that they are going to be judged in an objective manner."
"That is almost the very definition of justice," she added.
Rocah concluded that, "Brett Kavanaugh showed himself as someone who really seemed incapable of showing that kind of objectivity, and that is very disappointing and sad if we are going to politicize the Supreme Court in this way now."
