Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) said that President Donald Trump would be making a "mistake" if he does not fire Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.

"President Trump: I make a direct appeal to immediately fire Secretary Noem," Fetterman said, according to Daily Mail's Jon Michael Raasch. "DO NOT make the mistake President Biden made for not firing a grossly incompetent DHS Secretary."

According to the senator, Noem was "trashing" Trump's immigration legacy. He did not target White House immigration architect Stephen Miller, Border Patrol chief Greg Bovino, or DHS adviser Corey Lewandowski.

Fetterman, however, is on record saying that he would not support a government shutdown to force Trump to reform immigration enforcement.

"I will never vote to shut our government down, especially our Defense Department," the senator wrote after the killing of 37-year-old Alex Pretti at the hands of a DHS officer. "Additionally, a vote to shut our government down will not defund ICE. DHS has $178B [billion] in funding from the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which I did not vote for."
