
Florida Democrats achieved a major symbolic victory on Tuesday evening, with multiple outlets projecting them to flip a Palm Beach County state house district that not only was carried by President Donald Trump by double digits in 2024, but physically includes his Mar-a-Lago country club residence.
According to Decision Desk and CNN anchor Erin Burnett, Democratic candidate Emily Gregory has triumphed over Republican Jon Maples in a closely-watched special election where Democrats invested heavily.
It's the latest in a series of local election victories for Democrats in Florida, a state where the party has suffered years of setbacks, a collapse of party registration, and, most recently, a presidential election where Republicans won in a blowout after the state was barely even contested by the Democratic ticket.
In another recent victory, Democrats won the mayoral race in Miami, securing that office for the first time in three decades in one of the largest cities in the United States with significant Republican control.
