Matt Gaetz furious Kevin McCarthy is 'squatting' in speaker's private bathroom

Kevin McCarthy's apparently "squatting" in the speaker's loo.

The Washington Post's Ben Terris wrote about how Speaker Kevin McCarthy's down-in-the-dumps state in the House after he was ousted from his perch warrants more introspection.

"The speakerless moment has raised some heady questions," Terris floated in a post. "Like: How can the United States be a levelheaded leader on the world stage if one chamber of Congress has lost its head?"

POLL: Should Trump be allowed to run for office?

He continued:

"And: Should McCarthy still have the key to the speaker’s private bathroom?"

He then rekindled a favorite refrain by McCarthy's sworn foe, Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), who in January had charged the California leader with occupying the office (and no doubt the posh perk of a private bathroom) without merit.

“After three undeciding votes, no member can lay claim to this office,” Gaetz wrote in a letter at the time. “How long will he remain there before he is considered a squatter?”

Terris echoed this with another point.

"Naturally, [Gaetz] isn’t a fan of McCarthy’s “squatting," he posted.

And Gaetz didn't let up, suggesting McCarthy could wield essentially a Fisher Price version of the Speaker gavel while the rest of the grownups get to doing the peoples' important work.

According to Terris, Gaetz said of McCarthy: “Maybe they can even make a pretend gavel for him to swing around as he clings to the memory that he was once a failed speaker for nine months.”

A previous squatting-related incident occurred earlier Thursday.

Gaetz and McCarthy reportedly locked horns when McCarthy had the floor.

The former speaker was said to have yelled at Gaetz to sit down. McCarthy claimed afterward he kept composed and didn't raise his voice.
