Fox News viewers will be watching a new 30-second ad from an unlikely source – California Governor Gavin Newsom. An exclusive first look at the ad was granted to Politico.
In the ad, Newsom boasts the Golden State's commitment to “reducing trade barriers and delivering for American consumers,” before slamming Trump.
Standing at the Port of Oakland, Newsom warned that the president's tariff policies will lead to a slowdown of goods coming into the country.
Newsom raises concerns about empty store shelves during the back-to-school and Christmas shopping seasons.
“These tariffs punish families and risk ending America’s run as the world’s greatest economy,” he says. “Take it from California: We’re the ones leading it.”
The ad is being paid for out of Newsom’s 2022 governor campaign account
According to the report, it will air on “Fox and Friends” this weekend.

Newsom is known to reach out to republicans "on their home turf." He’s appeared on Sean Hannity’s show and on billboards in red states. He’s also invited Charlie Kirk and Steve Bannon to his new podcast.
Newsome has spent most of Trump’s early months in office pulling his punches, paying no mind to Trump’s ‘nickname’ for him, ‘New-scum.’
The outlet believes the soft tone from Newsome is because he fears “that any hostilities could imperil badly needed federal aid after wildfires devastated Los Angeles in January.”
Newsome’s soft approach is also seen in his reaction to Trump’s recent call to impose 100 percent tariffs on foreign film imports.
“Instead of blasting Trump’s proposal, he challenged the president to rethink his approach and embrace a $7.5 billion federal film tax credit instead, a staggering subsidy that would complement Newsom’s efforts to expand California’s state-level incentives,” Politico said.
However, the impact of tariffs is leading the Governor to act.
He announced a lawsuit challenging Trump’s authority to unilaterally tax imports. He has criticized the president’s tariffs as an “existential threat to his state’s economy.”
California has the world’s fourth-largest economy.
