Conservative attorney George Conway regaled CNN's Anderson Cooper with how he helped advise columnist E. Jean Carroll to sue former President Donald Trump for defamation after the ex-president called her a liar for accusing him of rape.
A trial is underway on this matter to assess damages against the former president, and Trump's attorney Alina Habba has raised eyebrows among legal experts with her behavior in court this week.
"Can you remind our viewers of how you met E. Jean Carroll?" asked Cooper. "What role you played in her decision to sue the former president?"

"I met her in 2019, about a week after the report of her story came out," said Conway. "The book came out. The excerpt in New York Magazine came out. And I had written a piece in The Washington Post talking about how, if anyone believed in Juanita Broaddrick, who made claims against Bill Clinton that Donald Trump trumpeted during the 2016 campaign, then they should believe Jean Carroll as well. She had witnesses who she told about the event right after it happen. And I thought it was pretty compelling and pretty persuasive."
"I ran into Jean Carroll by happenstance in Manhattan a few days after writing that piece, and she came up and introduced herself and thanked me for writing the piece in The Washington Post," he continued. "And asked, some people are saying I should sue. Do you think I have a claim? And I said yes. Immediately. It took basically no thinking. It's like, he's lying about you and that's a defamation. That's a defamation claim. Then about ten seconds later, I thought, oh, I know precisely the lawyer who should be handling this. An excellent lawyer who had become a friend of mine who has been since that day, representing her."
"And that's how I got to know Jean Carroll," Conway concluded. "That's how she met her lawyer, and the rest is what we have now."
