Anti-Trump attorney George Conway on Tuesday shut down a Trump supporter who on Tuesday suggested that Conway abandoned the former president just to get publicity.

While appearing on C-SPAN's "Washington Journal," a pro-Trump caller slammed him for his attacks on the former president and suggested that was the reason that his wife, longtime Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway, was divorcing him.

"Is it just to get attention?" the caller demanded to know. "Is that why Kellyanne is divorcing you?"

"I'm not going to get into personal stuff," Conway responded. "But I would rather be somewhere else than here today. I avoided publicity my whole life, even when I was doing things that were political. I mean, I helped get Bill Clinton impeached... I don't like corrupt politicians. I don't like liars. That's what this is about."

Conway went on to say that he was "ashamed" to have supported Trump in 2016 when his wife was managing Trump's upstart campaign.

"It was a mistake of judgment," he said. "It was a mistake of moral judgment. It was an intellectual mistake. And I want to make amends for that."

Conway said that his goal was to encourage Republicans within the party to overcome their fears of retribution and "speak out" against the "danger" of a second Trump term.
