Former Rep. George Santos (R-NY) was sentenced to more than seven years in prison on Friday after he pleaded guilty to wire fraud and aggravated identity theft.

Santos confessed to a number of schemes, which included lying to Congress, money laundering and fraudulently receiving unemployment benefits.

"Remember during his sentencing today, George Santos lied about everything—his name, his career, his religion, even his mother dying on 9/11. The only truthful thing he ever said was that he’s a Republican. And honestly, that explains the rest," said software engineer Alex Cole ahead of the sentencing.

MSNBC's Katie Phang also pointed out, "He is also ordered to pay $373,749.97 in restitution."

After the news broke, Santos' critics flocked to social media to poke fun at the former congressman.

"You are human scum!" Santos shouted in an old video Republicans Against Trump posted on X.

"And there was much rejoicing," multimedia journalist David Leavitt posted in GIF form.

Mike Nellis, Democratic strategist and former senior advisor to Kamala Harris questioned, "How long until Trump pardons George Santos and makes him Defense Secretary or something?"

Progressive influencer @JoJoFromJerz dismissed that Santos was important enough to discuss. She told her 525,000 followers on Blue Sky the news, and then asked, "Anyway, what’s for lunch?" She included an emoji of painting her nails.

Meanwhile, MAGA fan Josh Lickliter begged @POTUS on X, saying, "If Joe can pardon Hunter for selling out America, you can pardon patriot George Santos!"

Washington Post tech reporter Drew Harwell posted Santos' final CAMEO video, in which he wished a man named Matt a happy birthday. Santos was doing videos on Cameo for $19.99 for those willing to pay for it.
