The Republican Party of Georgia has declared war on a new menace threatening to corrupt the minds of patriotic children — The American Library Association.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that "nearly two dozen" Republican members of the Georgia State Senate have signed up for a new bill that would bar government funding for libraries that are affiliated with the American Library Association, on the grounds that the organization purportedly promotes "Marxism."
While it's not clear why these Republicans believe that the American Library Association is pushing for a revolution to recapture the means of production on behalf of the proletariat, the bill has nonetheless garnered some high-profile sponsors such as President Pro Tempore of the Georgia state Senate John F. Kennedy, Majority Leader Steve Gooch, Majority Caucus Chair Jason Anavitarte and Vice Chair Matt Brass.

And this isn't the only bill that Georgia Republicans have pushed in recent years that targets librarians, as the Atlanta Journal-Constitution writes that legislators last year introduced a bill that "would strip criminal legal protection from school librarians who let students check out books found to be obscene."
Republicans across the country have targeted books in school libraries for bans in recent years, with a particular focus on books that deal with gender identity and racial justice.
