Former prosecutor Glenn Kirschner explained why Donald Trump and his adult children are under intense pressure to tell the truth when they are forced to testify in his $250 million New York fraud trial.
During an interview on MSNBC, Kirschner said Trump — along with Ivanka, Don Jr., and Eric — were in danger of being hit with court sanctions for perjury.
"You know, more than 50 years ago, the Supreme Court famously said that cross-examination is the greatest legal engine ever invented for the discovery of the truth," Kirschner remarked. "And I think Don Jr., Eric, Ivanka, and eventually Donald Trump himself are going to learn that lesson the hard way."
New York Supreme Court Justice Arthur Engoron is expected to demand transparency from the witnesses. The judge has previously found that Trump's testimony was not credible.
"So, you know, they can try to deflect," Kirschner said. "They can try to feign lost memory. They can deceive. But if they do so and if they lie about something that is material to an issue in dispute, that's the magic language for the charge of perjury, then they could be looking at a perjury charge."
