House Republicans suffered what a CNN reporter called a "major setback" as they pulled back a vote on their own budget plan Tuesday night — only for House Speaker Mike Johnson to bring all House lawmakers back to hammer the vote through.
Despite having a trifecta, deficit hawks on the right had expressed concerns over the budget, despite President Donald Trump's seal of approval.
The vote was briefly pulled Tuesday, reporters at the Capitol said.

"House GOP cancels plan to vote tonight on budget," wrote CBS News justice correspondent Scott MacFarlane on X. "It appears there aren't sufficient votes."
"House GOP leaders are pulling the budget blueprint from the floor, per members. It’s [a] sign they didn’t have the votes to pass it tonight. Ifs unclear what their next plan is," wrote CNN reporter Manu Raju, who told anchor Erin Burnett it was a "major setback" for the party.
But not so — within minutes, reporters noted that one holdout, GOP Rep. Warren Davidson, appeared to flip to a yes.
"GOP Rep. Warren Davidson looks to be a yes now, per the House vote count board," Wall Street Journal reporter Olivia Beavers wrote on X.
Davidson later voted yes, giving Republicans hope they could push the budget through despite a razor-thin margin in the chamber.
The House GOP budget bill includes several key provisions such as $4.5 trillion in tax reductions over the next decade, massive spending cuts of $2 trillion over 10 years, and a $4 trillion increase in the national debt ceiling.
