MAGA Gov. Greg Abbott of Texas threatened state school districts on Monday that they will face "meaningful disciplinary action" if they dare to stand in his way of expanding the organization formerly led by slain conservative activist Charlie Kirk, according to a new report.
Abbott said during a news conference at the Texas Governor's mansion on Monday that he is working to expand chapters of Turning Point USA, the organization that Kirk led until his death, to every high school across Texas. Fox News reported that Abbott, a Republican, described the chapters, called Club America, as a "revival of foundational values on campuses and compared the movement to earlier faith-oriented groups that once dominated student life."
Abbott added that expanding the Club USA chapters to high schools across Texas would provide "essential moral guidance" for students, Fox News reported.
"Any school that stands in the way of a Club America program in their school should be reported immediately to the Texas Education Agency," Abbott said. "I expect meaningful disciplinary action to be taken for any stoppage of TPUSA in the great state of Texas."
The expansion comes at a time when Abbott is seeking to reshape the educational landscape in Texas. The state's Republican-controlled legislature passed a bill earlier this year to create an educational savings account program that pays parents around $10,000 per student enrolled in a private school.
Abbott has been a fervent supporter of President Donald Trump's two administrations, including the president's deportation agenda. Abbott has approved the deployment of Texas National Guard troops to Illinois to protect immigration agents during raids.
He has also threatened to impose tariffs on people "fleeing" to Texas from Democrat-run states like New York, according to a report by The Daily Beast.
