'He screwed up': Pete Hegseth called out by veteran after report kneecaps scandal defense

Paul Rieckhoff, the founder of Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America, blasted Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth over the Signal scandal that won't die.

A new report from The Washington Post on Wednesday revealed that the document Hegseth copied into a Signal chat was marked "SECRET." It refutes his ongoing claim that nothing in the chat, which included a journalist, contained any classified information. Hegseth has the power to declassify the information, but doing so would be an admission that it was classified in the first place.

"Pilots always say focus on the target, right? Stay focused on the target," said Rieckhoff. "Did he disclose something that could have gotten somebody killed? Yes. Rep. Seth Moulton is a decorated Marine. He knows it. Ruben Gallego in the Senate knows it. Don Bacon, who's a former general, knows it. And they're continuing to come back to it because they know he screwed up and he knows he screwed up."

He noted that the overarching question is whether Republicans will take action.

Richard Stengel, a former State Department official, asserted that the Trump administration constantly ducks responsibility.
