A bombshell report in The Atlantic revealed that Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth shared classified war plans in a Signal chat that included a reporter among its membership — and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton had thoughts on the eye-popping report.

Taking to X on Monday, Clinton posted, "You have got to be kidding me."

Congressional Republicans and the FBI investigated Clinton for accessing State Department information using a private email, as the BBC explained in 2016. The emails became an outsized campaign issue that year as she ran unsuccessfully against then-candidate Donald Trump.

As recently as 2023, Trump attacked Clinton, saying, “Hillary Clinton broke the law, and she didn’t get indicted” because “the FBI and Justice Department protected her.”

An exhaustive 2018 report from the Department of Justice Inspector General concluded that investigators made the right call by not charging Clinton, and their decision-making wasn't motivated by political bias.

Former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg similarly posted, "From an operational security perspective, this is the highest level of f---up imaginable. These people cannot keep America safe."

Long-time GOP pollster Sarah Longwell reposted a Fox Business discussion about Clinton that involved Hegseth attacking her over classified emails.

"Well, she's got two problems here. Two words: Top Secret," Hegseth said. "Before it was servers. It was classified. It was sort of this amorphous idea that maybe it was wrong. Everyone knows what 'Top Secret' means. I've got top-secret clearance. It's got big red flashing letters: Top Secret! You know when you're looking at something that is top secret or dealing with it. In this case, the public will resonate with that."

In another Fox appearance in 2016, Hegseth similarly said, "Let me be clear, to quote the president: Hillary Clinton — if it was anyone other than Hillary Clinton, they would be in jail right now for what has been done. Because the assumption is in the intelligence community, if you are using unclassified means, there is the potential for and likelihood that foreign governments are targeting those accounts and gathering intelligence from them.
