'At each other's throats’: Analyst sees Hegseth's closest allies tearing each other apart

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth might be in a whirlwind of controversy, but his biggest problems are coming from “inside the house,” according to a Column from Salon.

“Unfortunately, it does appear that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is not living up to what the president and the entire Republican Party apparently believed was his vast potential based upon his 'central casting' good looks and white supremacist tattoos,” Heather Digby Parton wrote..

She added, “[Hegseth] appears to be obsessed with his Fox News culture war issues, particularly DEI, and spends an awful lot of time worrying about things like physical fitness rather than the big picture.”

The biggest problem Digby Parton has, however, is “that he's so ridiculously underqualified for the real job of running the Pentagon that the whole place is starting to come apart — and it's happening at the hands of Hegseth's own closest allies who are apparently at each other's throats.”

The critiques come after the New York Times revealed a second Signal chat from Hegseth’s personal phone where he shared sensitive information with his wife, brother, and personal lawyer.

Digby Parton claimed it is “not too hard to guess” where this information came from. “There has been a very puzzling purge of Hegseth's closest advisers over the last few days.”

She quoted several Politico reports, one of which claimed several former staffers were "under investigation for a series of leaks.”

The second is a Sunday night article published in Politico from John Ullyot, former Pentagon spokesman, who said, “the Pentagon has been in total chaos for the last month, and that it's hard to see how Hegseth survives. He claims more bombshells are on the way.”

She ended her saying, “Pete Hegseth is a monumental national security risk.”
