Chaos enveloped the CIA on Wednesday after Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers raided a nearby construction site, sending panicked workers hopping over a fence at the agency's headquarters, according to a report.
When ICE agents swarmed the construction site, workers bolted in different directions, The New York Times reported. Several took off toward the CIA's Langley campus and tried to hop over the fence surrounding the building.
People briefed on the incident told the Times that the CIA was not informed of the raid ahead of time. Chaos ensued, with some intelligence officers unable to leave the parking lot.
The raid comes as President Donald Trump cracks down on immigration, a campaign pledge that helped propel him to the White House.
On Friday, nearly 500 South Korean workers at a Hyundai plant in Georgia were detained as part of an immigration operation.
In California, the city of Huntington Park has been reduced to a "ghost town" as people resort to desperate measures to protect themselves from ICE raids.
