A video of what’s been reported to be a fatal ICE-involved shooting in Minnesota spread wildly on social media Saturday, prompting state leaders to demand Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents leave the North Star State immediately.
In the video, which appears to have been recorded by a bystander from inside a nearby building, at least seven federal law-enforcement officers are seen wrestling an individual to the ground. One officer appears to strike the person with what looks like a firearm shortly before several shots are fired in the individual’s direction.
“Did they f------ kill that guy?” a voice can be heard in the video as the federal law enforcement officers fire off several shots. “Are you f------ kidding me?”
The incident occurred in Minneapolis just outside Glam Doll Donuts at around 9 a.m., and saw law enforcement aggressively attempt to contain the scene, throwing tear gas canisters amid a growing crowd of bystanders. The individual was declared dead by Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O'Hara, according to NBC News journalist Ali Velshi.
According to The New York Times, more protesters are gathering at the scene of the incident, some chanting “I smell Nazis.”
“The scene has quickly grown chaotic, with at least 300 protesters and law enforcement officers and a gridlock of cars clogging the road,” wrote Times reporter Maia Coleman, who spoke with a 24-year-old Minneapolis resident who lives a block away from the scene.
“So far, she has seen officers throw two protesters to the ground. A few minutes ago, a man in tactical gear and a mask threw something into the dumpster outside her apartment, causing a loud bang. The dumpster is now on fire and smoking vigorously, she said.”
