White House press secretary Jen Psaki was asked by reporters Wednesday if they believe former President Donald Trump is the reason for the increase in anti-Asian hate in the U.S.

Psaki said "there's no question" that Trump's "damaging rhetoric" about Asians played a role in the spike of hate crimes against Asian people in the United States.

Trump has spent the last year blaming China for the coronavirus, which has spread across the Earth and killed over 2.6 million people worldwide. He labeled COVID-19 as "The China Virus" or "Kung flu" -- and even called it the "China virus" just after the shooting was reported during a Fox News call-in-interview Tuesday night.

The U.S. has experienced a dramatic increase in anti-Asian hate, which increased 150 percent in 2020, said an analysis released by the Center for the Study of Hate and Extremism.
