President Donald Trump gave reporters a backhanded compliment, calling them ‘difficult’ and comparing them to Iranians during an impromptu press conference on the White House lawn Wednesday morning.
“Mr. President, you've been fairly compassionate towards the Iranian people,” one reporter said, “suggesting—”
Trump cut the reporter off before being able to actually ask a question. “I know a lot of people from Iran, from New York, from Washington, mostly from New York. They're incredible people. They're smart, they're energetic.” Trump said before adding, “They can be difficult, but so can you.”
“They're great people,” he went on speaking about Iranian people, “smart people, and those people are getting the hell out of them now, and it's really a shame. It's so stupid.”
Trump repeated himself, “It's so stupid.”
The question was referencing the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran, and the many warnings Trump gave the Iranian people to make a peace deal and halt their attempts to make a nuclear bomb.
Trump's ‘difficult’ remark is just one of a few other digs he made at the media during the press conference. He originally was speaking to reporters about the erection of two 100-foot flag poles at the White House.
