President Joe Biden's campaign blasted his Republican rival's vice presidential pick Monday, saying J.D. Vance will do what Mike Pence wouldn't on Jan. 6.
Former President — and newly minted 2024 presumptive Republican nominee — Donald Trump named Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) as his running mate in the presidential election.
"After lengthy deliberation and thought, and considering the tremendous talents of many others," Trump announced on Truth Social, "I have decided that the person best suited to assume the position of Vice President of the United States is Senator J.D. Vance of the Great State of Ohio."
Vance beat out leading contenders including Florida Sen. Marco Rubio and Gov. Doug Burgum (R-ND) for the position, formerly held by Mike Pence.
In response to the announcement, Biden-Harris 2024 chair Jen O'Malley slammed the choice, telling Axios in a statement that Vance was picked because he'll "do what Mike Pence wouldn't on January 6: bend over backwards to enable Trump and his extreme MAGA agenda, even if it means breaking the law and no matter the harm to the American people."
Pence was vilified by MAGA after he refused to dismiss Biden's election on Jan. 6.

"This is someone who supports banning abortion nationwide while criticizing exceptions for rape and incest survivors; railed against the Affordable Care Act, including its protections for millions with preexisting conditions; and has admitted he wouldn't have certified the free and fair election in 2020," the Biden campaign said.
Vance's biggest supporters are billionaires and corporations, the campaign said — "they know he and Trump will cut their taxes and send prices skyrocketing for everyone else."
