Republicans are about to run face first into a "brick wall" after a "strategic misstep" is leaving them in a no-win scenario as they take on former prosecutor Jack Smith, according to a lawyer.
The GOP has targeted Smith for his work in prosecuting Donald Trump in multiple cases, including a federal case over purported attempts to undermine the results of the 2020 election. Recently, Republicans subpoenaed Smith, but asked for the testimony to be private, which is a big mistake, according to Skye L. Perryman, a prominent lawyer and the President and CEO of Democracy Forward, a non-partisan, national legal organization.
After a host on MS NOW noted that the move by Republicans will "give Jack Smith the opportunity to relitigate the claims against Donald Trump about the mishandling of classified information and his attempts to overturn the 2020 election," Perryman urged people to ask, "What are they hiding?"
She then said, "I agree with you. This seems like yet another place where the administration is reaching too far, too fast, and they're also going to run into that brick wall."
