On the final day of 2025, the House Judiciary Committee released an interview with former special counsel Jack Smith about his prosecution of President Donald Trump.

In the 245-page transcript, Smith claimed he had enough evidence to convict Trump of election interference charges. The case was dropped after Trump was re-elected.

"You just made some pretty definitive statements about your belief that President Trump was guilty of these charges. Is that correct?" Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) asked Smith in the interview.

"Yes, I believe we had proof beyond a reasonable doubt in both cases," Smith replied.

The former special counsel later added, "Pres. Trump was, by a large measure, the most culpable and most responsible person in this conspiracy. These crimes were committed for his benefit. The attack that happened at the Capitol, part of this case, does not happen without him."
